Changing Jobs with Anxiety

I have a really good job but from time to time I enjoy entertaining the thought of going to work for another company. This is a great challenge to the anxious person. First, you get to enjoy days of stress & worry leading up to interview day, then on the dreadful day, you rock back and forth in your chair waiting for the time to come. You arrive for the interview and wait and worry some more. This was my day yesterday. Once the interview or should I say interviews started, there were four of them, I felt completely relaxed and at peace.

Then on the drive home the anxiety kicked into overdrive:

  • “You aren’t qualified to even do the job you have now, what makes you think you can do this new job?”
  • “Is it fair to take a new job, what if your anxiety prevents you from excelling?”
  • “I wonder if i should go see a neurologist to make sure I don’t have a brain tumor or MS before I think about taking a new job?”
  • “What if I get paralyzed by fear, unable to do my job, and I get fired?”
